Wudu is a Condition for Prayer

Abu Hurairah reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The prayer of one who breaks his wudu is not accepted until he performs wudu."

The Virtue of Wudu

Abu Hurairah reported: "I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: 'My Ummah will be called on the Day of Resurrection with bright foreheads, shining from the traces of wudu. Whoever among you is able to lengthen his brightness, let him do so.'"

Purity is Not Removed Except with Certainty

‘Abdullah ibn Zayd ibn ‘Asim al-Ansari reported: "He complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about a man who imagines that he finds something in the prayer. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'He should neither leave (the prayer) nor turn away until he hears a sound or perceives a smell.'"

The Sunnah of Lightening in Wudu

Ibn ‘Abbas reported: "I spent a night at the house of my aunt, Maymunah. The Prophet ﷺ got up during the night. At some point in the night, he performed wudu from a hanging container, a light wudu, which ‘Amr used to lighten and reduce, and then he prayed.

I performed wudu similar to what he did, then came and stood on his left, or as Sufyan said, on his north side. He moved me and placed me on his right. Then he prayed as much as Allah willed. Afterwards, he lay down and slept until the call to prayer came. When the caller announced the prayer, he rose and prayed without performing wudu again."

Obligation of Perfecting Wudu

Usamah ibn Zayd reported: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ departed from ‘Arafah until he reached Al-Sha‘b, where he relieved himself, then performed wudu but did not perfect it. I said: 'Shall we pray, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'The prayer is in front of you.' He mounted his camel.

When he arrived at Al-Muzdalifah, he dismounted and performed wudu, perfecting it. Then the prayer was established, and he prayed Maghrib. Then each person tied his camel at his place. Afterwards, ‘Isha’ was established and he prayed it; he did not pray anything in between them."

It is Obligatory to Wash the Feet

‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr reported: "The Prophet ﷺ lagged behind us on a journey we had undertaken, and he caught up with us when we were exhausted from Asr time. We began to perform wudu and wipe over our feet. He called out in a loud voice: 'Woe to the heels from the Fire,' twice or three times."

Ruling on Rinsing the Mouth in Wudu

Humran, the freedman of ‘Uthman ibn ‘Affan, reported: "He saw ‘Uthman perform wudu. He poured water from his container over his hands and washed them three times. Then he placed his right hand in the wudu, rinsed his mouth, sniffed water into his nose, and expelled it. Then he washed his face three times, his hands up to the elbows three times, wiped his head, and washed each foot three times. Then he said: 'I saw the Prophet ﷺ perform wudu like this, and he said: Whoever performs wudu like mine, then prays two rak‘ahs without speaking about worldly matters in them, Allah will forgive his past sins.'"

Beginning with the Right in Wudu

‘A’ishah reported: "The Prophet ﷺ liked to start with the right in putting on his sandals, taking them off, and in his purification; in all his affairs."

Permissibility of Performing Wudu for Others

Usamah ibn Zayd reported: "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ departed from ‘Arafah, he moved toward the crowd to attend to his needs. Usamah ibn Zayd said: 'I poured water over him and he performed wudu. I asked: O Messenger of Allah, shall I pray? He said: The place of prayer is in front of you.'"
