قصة داوود عليه السلام

Prophet Img!

Prophet Dawud (David) (peace be upon him) is among the greatest prophets of the Children of Israel. Allah granted him both prophethood and kingship, bestowed upon him wisdom, and revealed to him the Zabur (Psalms). His story carries powerful lessons in courage, justice, worship, and repentance.

Dawud (PBUH) with Talut’s army and the defeat of Jalut

The Qur’an mentions that the Children of Israel set out under Talut and were tested by a river—only a small group remained steadfast. When they faced Jalut (Goliath) and his forces, Allah granted victory, and the Qur’an states:

“So they defeated them by permission of Allah, and Dawud killed Jalut, and Allah gave him the kingdom and wisdom and taught him of what He willed.”

This moment became a major turning point, after which Allah granted Dawud kingship and wisdom.

The Zabur and wisdom

Among Allah’s greatest favors upon Dawud (PBUH) was the revelation of the Zabur and the gift of wisdom and sound judgment.

Mountains and birds praising Allah with Dawud

The Qur’an also mentions that Allah subjected mountains and birds to glorify Allah along with Dawud when he glorified Him—an awe-inspiring sign that deepens faith.

Softening iron and making armor

Allah softened iron for Dawud and taught him the craft of making armor—beneficial work that protects people—while commanding righteous deeds.

Justice in judgment and avoiding haste

The Qur’an presents the scene of two disputants who came to Dawud (PBUH). After an initial judgment, Dawud realized it was a test, so he sought forgiveness and turned back to Allah. This teaches:

The worship of Dawud (PBUH)

Authentic hadiths mention that among the best voluntary fasting is the fasting of Dawud—fasting every other day—and among the most beloved prayers is his night prayer.
