What should I do after completing Umrah?
What to do after completing Umrah?
Umrah is a profound spiritual experience that purifies the soul and cleanses the heart, bringing the servant closer to Allah. After completing the rituals of Umrah, the pilgrim enters a new phase filled with peace and contentment. Here’s what to do after completing Umrah:
- Exiting Ihram (Tahallul):
After Sa’i, men shave or trim their hair; women trim a fingertip’s length of hair. Then, the pilgrim wears regular clothing and is freed from all restrictions of Ihram. - Drinking Zamzam water:
It is recommended to drink the blessed Zamzam water after Umrah due to its great virtue mentioned in the Sunnah. - Supplication and humility:
This is a perfect time to pray, ask for forgiveness, mercy, and to have your wishes granted. - Visiting the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina:
If possible, the pilgrim should visit the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, pray there, and send salutations upon the Prophet ﷺ. - Making the most of remaining time:
The pilgrim can spend remaining time in Mecca increasing worship and prayers, visiting religious and historical sites, or shopping for gifts and souvenirs. - Returning home:
After spending blessed time in Mecca, it is time to return home with beautiful spiritual memories and important lessons to improve one’s life.
Notes:
- The pilgrim may delay exiting Ihram until after visiting Medina and can perform Umrah separately without Hajj.
- It is recommended to increase recitation of istighfar, tasbih, takbir, and supplication during the journey.
- The pilgrim should maintain Islamic etiquette and morals throughout the trip.
