What are the requirements for the Shahada?
The Testimony of Faith (Shahada) and Its Conditions
The Shahada (testimony of faith) is the foundation and first gateway of Islam, as it expresses sincere belief in the highest values and pillars of the religion. The testimony of monotheism (Shahada) includes essential conditions that a person must fulfill to enter Islam correctly and acceptably.
What Are the Conditions of the Shahada?
- Belief in the Oneness of Allah (Tawheed):
A person declaring Islam must believe that there is no god but Allah, He has no partner, and He is the Creator and Sustainer of everything. This means acknowledging that Allah alone is responsible for creation, provision, guidance, and that He alone deserves exclusive worship. - Belief in the Prophethood of Muhammad (peace be upon him):
A person wishing to enter Islam must believe that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah and the last of the prophets, sent with a message and guidance for all humanity. The individual must appreciate the value of the message, accept it fully, and follow its teachings.
These conditions form the basis of the Shahada in Islam, making it an expression of sincere belief committed to the teachings of the religion.
