Taraweeh Prayer and Laylat al-Qadr

Taraweeh prayer cannot be made up on Laylat al-Qadr, because Taraweeh is a voluntary (nafl) prayer, and voluntary prayers are not made up after their time has passed.

However, if someone misses Taraweeh on Laylat al-Qadr, they may perform Qiyam al-Layl (night prayer) instead. In this case, the intention should be night prayer, not Taraweeh.

Night Prayer (Qiyam al-Layl):

• It is a voluntary prayer, performed after Isha prayer.
• The number of rak’ahs is not fixed; one may pray as many as they wish.
• It is recommended to pray in pairs (two rak’ahs) and to recite Qur’an in each rak’ah.

Virtues of Taraweeh on Laylat al-Qadr:

• It expiates sins
• Raises spiritual ranks
• Brings one closer to Allah

Supplications that can be recited during night prayer:

• “O Allah! Guide me among those You have guided, grant me well-being among those You have granted well-being, take me under Your care among those You have taken under Your care, bless what You have given me, and protect me from the evil You have decreed. Indeed, You decree, and none can decree over You. None is humiliated whom You befriend, and none is honored whom You oppose. Blessed and Exalted are You, O our Lord.”
• “O Allah! Forgive all my sins, the small and the great, the first and the last, the hidden and the open.”
• “O Allah! I ask You for pardon and well-being in this world and the Hereafter.”
• “O Allah! I ask You for Paradise and whatever brings me closer to it, and I seek refuge in You from the Fire and whatever brings me closer to it.”
