How to Seek Laylat al-Qadr

There are many ways to seek Laylat al-Qadr, including:

  1. Increase worship in the last ten nights of Ramadan
  2. I’tikaf (Spiritual retreat in the mosque):
    Abu Huraira (r.a) reported: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
    "Seek Laylat al-Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan, especially on the odd nights: the 21st, 23rd, and 27th nights." (Tirmidhi)
  3. Perform Taraweeh prayers:
    Abu Sa’id al-Khudri (r.a) reported: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
    "Whoever prays during Laylat al-Qadr with faith and seeking reward, his previous sins will be forgiven." (Bukhari & Muslim)
  4. Supplication and Seeking Forgiveness:
    Aisha (r.a) asked: "O Messenger of Allah! If I knew which night is Laylat al-Qadr, what should I supplicate?"
    He said:
    "Recite: 'O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness, so forgive me.'" (Tirmidhi)
  5. Looking for its signs: Calm winds and clear atmosphere:
    Ibn Abbas (r.a) reported: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
    "Laylat al-Qadr is a calm night, neither hot nor cold; the sun rises weak and red." (Ahmad & Muslim) Peace and tranquility:
    Abu Huraira (r.a) reported: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
    "A sign of Laylat al-Qadr is that the sun rises without strong rays, as if covered by a lid." (Muslim)
  6. Exerting oneself in worship throughout the nights:
    Ibn Umar (r.a) reported: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
    "Seek Laylat al-Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan, in every odd night." (Bukhari)
  7. Do not rely on dreams or visions:
    Abu Qatadah (r.a) reported: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
    "Do not determine Laylat al-Qadr by dreams; dreams may be true or false." (Abu Dawud)
  8. Use books of supplications and remembrance:
    You can use books of duas and adhkar containing special supplications for Laylat al-Qadr.

Note:
There is no authentic evidence specifying the exact date of Laylat al-Qadr. Scholars have made efforts to estimate it. The best approach is to increase worship in all of the last ten nights of Ramadan.

May Allah grant us the ability to observe Laylat al-Qadr and benefit from its virtues.
