What is the ruling on listening to songs during Ramadan according to Ibn Baz?

Ruling on Listening to Music During Ramadan – Sheikh Ibn Baz (may Allah have mercy on him):

Muslim scholars, including Sheikh Ibn Baz (may Allah have mercy on him), have unanimously agreed that listening to music is haram (forbidden) during Ramadan and at other times.

There are many Islamic evidences for this ruling:

Sheikh Ibn Baz (may Allah have mercy on him) emphasized that listening to music during Ramadan is more severely prohibited than at other times. Ramadan is a month of worship and goodness; Muslims should increase their remembrance of Allah, recite the Qur’an, and dedicate themselves to worship and obedience. Listening to music distracts from these acts of devotion.

Sheikh Ibn Baz (may Allah have mercy on him) further explained that listening to music in Ramadan may invalidate the fast if it is intended for idle amusement or leads to committing another sin.

He also mentioned that whoever refrains from listening to music for Allah’s sake will have their faith strengthened, their provision blessed, and be protected from the evil of Satan.

Therefore, Muslims should avoid listening to music during Ramadan and at other times, guard their tongues from forbidden speech, and increase their remembrance of Allah and Qur’an recitation.

Note: This fatwa is taken from “Fatawa Sheikh Ibn Baz” (Vol. 17, p. 312).
