Surah Al-Mulk and Its Virtues (According to Ibn Uthaymeen)
Surah Al-Mulk is one of the short chapters of the Qur’an, containing verses of deep meaning and the beautiful names of Allah. This Surah has received great attention from scholars and exegetes, including Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him), who explained many benefits and virtues of reciting it.
Virtues of Reciting Surah Al-Mulk According to Ibn Uthaymeen
- Protection from the punishment of the grave:
This is one of the main reasons to recite Surah Al-Mulk. Hadiths indicate that this Surah intercedes for its reciter and saves them from the punishment of the grave. - Blessing in sustenance:
Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen stated that reciting Surah Al-Mulk brings blessings in provision and increases sustenance. - Mental calm and serenity:
Reciting Qur’anic verses, especially Surah Al-Mulk, provides peace of mind, inner tranquility, and helps alleviate worries and depression. - Protection from Satan:
Satan’s influence increases at night. Reciting the Qur’an in general, and Surah Al-Mulk in particular, acts as a strong protection against Satan’s whispers. - Intercession on the Day of Judgment:
According to some scholars, Surah Al-Mulk intercedes for its reciter on the Day of Judgment and helps them enter Paradise.
Why Is It Recommended Before Sleeping?
- Protection from Satan: At night, Satan’s activity increases, and reciting Surah Al-Mulk acts as a barrier against his whispers.
- Preparing for sleep with the remembrance of Allah: Reciting the Qur’an before sleep brings peace to the heart and prepares the soul to rest while remembering Allah.
Reciting Surah Al-Mulk before sleep is a highly rewarding act of worship, providing numerous spiritual and worldly benefits. Muslims are encouraged to do this consistently, following the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
